Five Foolproof Ways To Drink More Water
There are endless benefits to drinking more water; it flushes out toxins, increases brain power and helps weight management, yet somehow we can still never find the time. With our busy schedules and penchant for a coffee or five, reaching our daily water intake goal can be difficult. Which is why we’ve devised a few tips and tricks to help keep you hydrated in the new year.
To set a goal for how much water you want to drink, you first need to work out how much water you need for your age, weight, sex and lifestyle. Generally speaking the average woman needs 1500ml of water a day (3 Rippl bottles) and the average man 2000ml (4 Rippl bottles).
This does, however, fluctuate based on your climate and activity level, so for a more precise calculation, you can multiply your weight by ⅔ then add 350ml for every 30 minutes of exercise you complete.
Now you have your target in place, we can create a cheat sheet for how you can smash your goals!
A Water Bottle
You guessed it, Rippl is here to save the day. Carrying a (reusable) water bottle is a tried and tested way to increase your water intake. It acts as a constant reminder of how much water you ought to be consuming and makes calculating your goals much easier.
Simply track how many times a day you fill your Rippl bottle, aim for no less than 3 or 4! It also helps that reusable water bottles like ours are much nicer to use. The high quality 304 stainless steel keeps your water ice-cold for up to 24 hours. If you take it everywhere you go, you never again have to use harmful plastic cups - plus they look great!
Infuse Your Water
Drinking water doesn’t have to be boring. If you can’t bear the thought of plain old water every day, opt for fruit or vegetable infused water instead. Pop some lemon, strawberries or mint into your Rippl bottle for added flavour and fun.
In fact, adding lemon to your water is known to assist with digestion and weight loss as well as preventing dehydration. So don’t be afraid to shake it up (literally!).
Increasing your water intake isn’t restricted to tap water either, so if hot drinks are more your thing, stock up on green, peppermint and lemon teas. Teas are a great way to add interest to your water while also helping keep you warm in the colder months.
Try to stick to non caffeinated options if you don’t want to be up all night. Rippl bottles are designed to keep your hot liquids hot for up to 12 hours. So if you are prone to making a brew, and then forgetting about it, we’ve got you covered.
Drink from a straw
Changes to our drinking experience can make a significant difference, and drinking from a straw instantly makes a drink more enjoyable. Straws encourage mindless sipping and make consumption more accessible, so we are likely to increase our water intake without even noticing.
At Rippl, we now also sell stainless steel straw sets, available in silver, gold and blue. Each set contains a thick straw, a curved straw, cleaning equipment and a Rippl bag.
If you are still having difficulty reaching your target, try making it more fun. Set yourself simple, achievable goals.
- Aim to take a gulp at every ad break or a sip at the end of every chapter of your book.
- Add lots of ice to your drinks or smoothies to sneak in some hydration.
- Match every coffee or tea with a glass of water.
- Eat more spicy food so you’ll be running to the tap to fill up your bottle.
- Set alarms and mental triggers to remind you.
All of these adjustments accumulate and eventually become the habits that will help you make good on your goals. Lastly, don’t forget to reward yourself for your persistence.
